Week 3 Reading: "The Definitive Guide to Entertainment Marketing" by Al Lieberman & Pat Esgate
-Chapter 10: Major Sports, Major Money: Sports
This week has been pretty busy for myself since last week as we went over most of the production contents through specific industries. Our assignment was to read through a specific chapter assigned, then build a 10 minute presentation over the specific industry chapter and describe the business marketing of the said industry, what it's current status quo as of today, and what is the current relationship it holds with the video game industry. As I mentioned from last week's journal blog, I was assigned chapter 10 from the Definitive Guide book, "Major League; Major Money, Sports", where I was to discuss about the industry of sports. I talked about their past and current marketing trends, where their main source of revenue comes from the sponsorships and the number of consumers that purchase to watch the contents either with ticket sales or pay-per-view. I've also mentioned it's familiar relationship with the game industry from their sports-based video game sales and how it's likely to encourage kids of all ages to try out the actual physical sport. Lastly, I talked about it's current sharing revenue with the game industry using the esports division to broadcast or stream live competitive matches across the globe. The most surprising revenues comes from the amount of investors or sponsors that pay for these live game tournaments that help increase the audience from the game industry. In this Link here, it shows just how much revenue Esports has made since 2017, with the increase rising up to 33% and shows some very accurate data. I've then concluded in my reports about what else they can look at for increasing their revenues more such as looking at the ongoing VR or AR simulation technology that would introduce more possibilities to expand the marketing content of both sports and game industry.
Weekly Production Review
While I've been focusing on other assignments, I took some time off to ask the lead production team about their game status and their current progress on their assignments for this semester. I sent out a list of questions to the Lead regarding their marketing stances based on their content of the game, how they plan to sell or ship out the product, how they are investing their time to gather their audiences, and what are their future plans for the next game product or continuation of their production. I got an immediate reply back and most of my questions answered. Now I just need to find the time to write a report on the Marketing C's and their production team. I should be able to get the paper turned in before the week ends, so long as my job doesn't interfere too much with my priorities.
